Notes for Holly

Holly! Congratulations on your graduation! I am so sad that it took so long for us to get to know each other. I only wish we had more time to serve together! I am so glad to know you. You are wise beyond your years and just a wonderful person!

Holly, I think I speak for the faculty in saying that we all felt privileged to have you in our ranks.

Holly – congratulations on graduating! I really wish we had more time together but I look forward to post-graduation adventures. Thank you for always demonstrating kindness and teamwork. It has been a joy to watch you lead, not just within SBA but also Interregnum. Love ya, girly!

Congratulations Holly! I don’t think Amity will see this in time, but I’m sure she’d want to congratulate you as well. You were always a joy to have in class.

When I think of you, Holly, Daniel 6:4 comes to mind, “They could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.” You are an amazing woman and I am privileged to know you. This world needs more people like you who radiate Christ’s love and joy. I know you will do amazing things for the Kingdom of God and I am so excited to see you flourish in this new season! You will be dearly missed on campus and I hope that we will stay in touch–love you! Congrats–GO CELEBRATE!!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matt. 6:33)

I seriously have no idea where to start. You are an absolute inspiration to me. You handle tough situations with elegance and poise and stuck up for yourself against all odds. You are my hero and my best friend! I can’t wait to spend another year in Park Slope with you!

Holls- thank you for being my first King’s friend, for always giving wise, honest advice, and for being the greatest paper editor ever. One of my greatest privileges at King’s has been getting to see the way that you love people so well and handle adversity with such grace. I love you, my brilliant big!

Congratulations on graduating, Holly! I so admire your thoughtfulness and perseverance in all you do. You are one of the kindest people I know, and I can’t wait to see where you go from here. I’ll always treasure our memories of long rooftop talks with Paris, crazy SBA adventures, late-night academic writing paper editing, and more! Thanks for always pointing me to Christ. I love you!

Nobody combines intelligence and kindness like you do, Holly. Proud of all the ways you’ve given to this community and shown us the value of hard work. Congratulations!!

You’re no doubt one of the sharpest people there is. Kindness is at the center of all that you do. Thanks for bailing me out in many classes and just generally putting up with my shenanigans.

Holly!! You are the best of us, and I don’t think anyone would disagree. Your walk with Christ is so evident in your words, actions, and relationships. You are an amazing friend, and I am so thankful for the privilege of getting to have a close friendship with you these last four years. You have done and will continue to do incredible things with all of your gifts. You are truly the best, Holly.

Holly! You’re such a joy to be around, and I could not imagine King’s or SBA without you. I love you, and cannot wait to see you once we’re back in the city!

Holly!

Your brilliance and kindness are unmatched. You are such a true friend. Congratulation on doing the college thing SO well. We will miss you but we are so happy you are staying close.

Dear Grand Big, I love you so much and I’m so sad to see you leave. Thank you for being such an inspirational and encouraging woman. Thank you for always going out of your way to love others. I can’t imagine King’s without you, but I’m so happy you will still be in the city. Congratulations Holly!!

Holly! Your joy, sweetness, and courage are evident in everything you do. I could not have asked for a better suffragette during my freshman year, or for a better person to remind me that it’s possible to make a home on opposite ends of the country. You were an amazing example to me, and only continued to do so in our house. I adore you, and cannot wait to celebrate your accomplishments with you!

Holly, it was such a joy to get to know you–whether through SBA events, or through going to Central together. It is clear that you are dedicated and hardworking but also kind and intentional with others. God will take you wonderful places!

Sweetest Holly!! I remember going up to your apartment for movie night my freshman year–I had only met you once, and already you were so kind and welcoming to me. You are the epitome of poise, kindness, and intelligence. I’m so excited to see where your adventures take you from here! xo

Holly, I’m pretty sure I’m safe in saying that you’re every King’s students idealized self. You do everything out of kindness and love, you put your best effort into everything you do, you’re insanely smart, and you truly model Christ in all that you do. I’m so blessed to have been in SBA with you these past four years, and I know you’re going to be one of the best teachers Success Academy has ever seen!!!

Sholly!! I am so beyond grateful for the amount of love and sunshine you have brought to my life! You radiate God’s love to everyone around you and I am so blessed by your friendship. All the time I miss living with you and our Netflix nights filled with popcorn and too much ‘Friends’ or ‘New Girl’. Thank you for reaching out before we even started King’s because you helped shape my past four years and I love you a ton and I cannot wait for many more movie nights with you and Shann! <3

Holly, where do I even begin?! When I think of you, I think of our annual Fall Retreat pictures, dessert at The Smith, Alpacas!, sunny blue skies, ballets at Lincoln Center, tacos by the beach, California Pizza Kitchen & the Nutcracker, but most of all, a friend of all friends. You have taught me what it means to be a true friend in Christ, through thick and thin. Thanks for always sticking with me, always giving me grace, and always showing me unconditional love. You’re one of a kind – incredibly bright & intelligent, beautiful inside and out, and an example of Christ’s character. We need more people in the world like you. Your heart is golden. I love you like a sister.

My Hols. My best friend. My #1 fan. My go-to gal. My future coworker and my constant ally.
I love you so dearly and I cherish you so much. Your love and heart for others continually pushes me to grow and inspires me to love more. I can’t believe I got lucky enough to have you at King’s, in SBA, and now we get to enter into post-grad life together! I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have King’s to thank for the lifelong friendship I got in you from these last four years. I wish we could celebrate the Shavelle way – in our pj’s with Ben and Jerry’s, a rom-com, and a nice game of fishbowl. You have so much joy ahead of you and I can’t wait to walk through so many more seasons of life with you by my side. Thanks for being the Monica to my Rachel (or the Rachel to my Monica, depending on the day ;)). LOVE YOU FOREVA AND EVA

Holly Shavelle. Just thinking about you brings a smile to my face!! I remember talking to you the summer before my freshman year, and I could not have been more excited to meet you on move-in day. You have a heart of absolute gold, and your hugs are pure medicine, I swear by it. You’re the most genuine person I know, and life might not always be going the right way, but you always find the sunshine amidst it all. I am so sad that I won’t be seeing your face around campus, but I know that you will be a HUGE blessing wherever you go next. I love you dearly. <3

Holly — you are sunshine as a person. Thank you for your heart and care for the King’s community and your friends. I will always be grateful to have gotten to know you. ily <3

One of the brightest stars at King’s! You brought so many contributions to our house and always thought of others first. I’m proud to know ya and to see where you go!

Holly: “This might be a dumb question…”
Everyone in the class: “There’s no way this is going to be a dumb question, it’s Holly…”

You’re a rockstar. You’ve got grit, spirit, and intelligence. Love you.

Holly!! I will forever be thankful for that Uber to the airport and that trip to Israel. I can’t believe we have only known each other for a year!! I am so thankful for our friendship and I can’t wait to be together again! I love you!

Holly! My goodness, what a wonderful four years we’ve experienced at King’s. Thank you for being a calming influence these four years, especially during that first year. I am blessed to have had you as a roommate and I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for you! Best wishes!

Holly, thank you for being such a good and close friend to me and everyone around you. Thank you for putting up with my limited vocabulary and lack of literary skills.

You have a million dollar sunshine smile and you love people well. So glad we’re friends my dude.

Holly! You are a true gem. You have such a caring heart and I’ve always appreciated and admired your ability to spread joy and positivity wherever you go! Our short greetings in between classes always brightened up my day. Let’s stay in touch and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for ya!

Holly! Where do I start?! From my freshman year when you hand-delivered a card and ice cream to my apartment after my grandma passed away to snuggling at EVERY house retreat, you’ve been a shoulder to lean on and a source of joy in my life. I’m so thankful to have met you and had the opportunity to become friends, and I’m so excited to see where life takes you!

Sweet Holly!!! Goodness, you are just a joy!! I am so thankful to know your kind spirit. I have always admired how much dedication you put into everything you do. You deserve all things sweet and beautiful. I wish you the best in all that you do!

Holly, it was a great privilege to have you in Masterworks this last semester! You are brilliant, hard-working, and kind — a powerful combination. Best wishes on your next steps!

Holly, I have so many great memories with you over the past few years! Rooming in Israel, game nights, the California trip that never happened, so many PPE classes that I didn’t participate in… Thanks for always being a friend and making me feel loved. I hope that we can stay in touch through all the things that happen in post-grad life. Love you!

Congratulations on your graduation, Holly!! You have a gift of thriving in both academics and friendship — a killer combo. Writing this note is making me wish I could turn back time and schedule more coffees + lunches, but hopefully we can finally make that happen in the future. 🙂 wishing you all the best!

Congratulations Holly!

I have so loved getting to know you over this past year & I’m sad the school year came to an abrupt end- there are more coffee dates in our future (maybe even tea in England)! You’ve been a wonderful friend and I admire your dedication in everything you do! It’s evident in your academics, friendships, even your 5am OTF! Wishing you nothing but the best beyond King’s!

Holly,

It’s been a pleasure and a privilege being your friend and classmate these past four years. Your contributions in class were both illuminating and insightful. Your joyful personality and dedication to excellence were a blessing to everyone around you and you did a fantastic job on the Interregnum Committee this year. Wherever you wind up going after King’s, I know that you will excel through challenges and hardships. May God continue to bless your future and efforts.

Holly,

Oh Holly. What a ride we’ve been through. I remember our first conversation was in Professor Kong’s Research Writing class where we bonded over the pressure of performing well. It was then I knew I had found a kindred spirit. You are the real life Hermione Granger of King’s. I definitely had the best coworker out of the entire college. I’m beyond positive my sanity would have cracked if we hadn’t worked together junior year. You are one of the most hardworking, intelligent, and compassionate people I know but you’ve got a backbone of steel. And your emails are far more graceful and tactful than mine ever were. 🙂

Holly, you are one strong lady! Quiet, but strong. You’ve worked SO hard here at King’s. You are incredibly smart and I know that whoever snags you up next will be incredibly blessed by how committed you are. You will be missed! Blessings to you!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Holly, many people have already touched on this, but I have to second all who admire your gentle strength and wisdom. You live and treat others with so much grace. You have a very special way of looking at people and studying ideas that draw out God’s handiwork in them. Congratulations as you wrap up your time at King’s! Praying God’s blessing on your life, wherever he may lead you.

Holly, you are such a kind soul. I’m really glad to have gotten to know you over these past four years, and I’m excited to see what God has in store for you!

Holly,

You’re one of those people that just kept King’s running! It’s gonna be a more empty place without you next year. You will go down as a King’s LEGEND, and I can’t wait to see what you do after King’s!

Eddie VanZandt

Holly, Congratulations! Anyone that knows you is blessed to have someone so kind-hearted, hard-working, and joyful in their life. I’m so excited to see what you conquer next!

Holly,

You will be deeply missed at King’s! I remember first meeting you at Aspen’s and thinking you had the kindest smile this world has ever known! I cannot wait to see where you go in life. Thank you for being such a great friend!

Best,
Serena

Holly!! Congrats on all the hard work that has led to today. Working alongside you this year has shown me what it means to work and live intentionally, and to love people well. I am grateful and proud to know you! Here is to you & having your friendship for many years to come! <3

Holly, you are so gracious and intelligent! What a joy it has been to be in class with you. Thank you for everything you have done to make King’s a better place!

Holly, I am amazed by your intellectual talent! You are such a kind soul and you ALWAYS greeted me with a smile (even when you could tell that I was having a bad day). May God continue to bless you and guide you in all of your future accomplishments! You deserve the best that life has to offer.

Congratulations Holly! What a great achievement that was further highlighted by the manner in which you completed your studies (Summa Cum Laude). It doesn’t get any better. I heard from a little bird that you will be in the education field doing some teaching – God bless you! You will be great!

Holly, you are the best Brand class buddy I could have wished for–I loved braving England in the front row with you, and every other class we had together from Lincoln to ConLaw! You are always thoughtful, compassionate, and kind, and do everything with excellence and integrity. I’m so excited for you as you begin life as a teacher, and know that you’ll encourage, inspire, and love your students just as you did for me and every other person who is blessed to know you!

How can I summarize the varied ways you have touched the lives of the Brand family? Perhaps mentioning the fact that our girls sing “Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas” year round, each time asking how you’re doing. Or how the same thing happens when one of them runs into our holly bush (“Why does sweet Holly have the same name as a tree that pricks us?”) Or how we’re all deeply saddened we’ll no longer see you for our Fall and Winter Saints Feasts? Or that I still remember how you spent extra hours at the shire working on that dratted index? Or how I will miss your amazing papers and quiet presence in so many history classes and your rescuing me from so much admin as my FA? Needless to say, the time you spent with us at King’s and in the shire will be cherished forever. You will always be welcome at this hobbit hole so please see us soon and often whenever you are near.

Sweet Holly,

Congratulations on GRADUATING and for doing it oh so well! I am so grateful for all of the amazing memories that we made together – editing micro papers, taking ballet classes, MOVING TO BROOKLYN, getting lost on a mountain in Barcelona… the list is endless, and I know that there is so much more to come. Thank you for being my friend. I cannot wait to see you SHINE this year as you bless the heck out of some littles – God is going to use your sweetness and intelligence to bless a lot of lives. Love you tons!

Holly Shavelle! One of my favorite faces to see around school. I will never forget being blown away by how much about basketball you knew about and how you knew the starting five and the original colors of the warriors before the Steph era. You are such an amazing person and you are literally unstoppable. Keep being you and never stop. Thank you for every thing you have done in my life Holly! Stay in touch!
