Notes for Sydney

Sydney Watson…I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say my last name as much as you do! Somehow my name became a your thing instead of mine haha

You are such a bright soul! I know your time at King’s has not gone as you would have planned, and there’s been seasons of tears. But I respect how you’ve leaned into it and still dedicated yourself so much to loving others.

While we miss you already, I am so excited for whatever is next for you!

We were all gifted to have you in class. Though some times were rough, you’ve weathered it all well. I hope you stay connected!

Congratulations, Sydney! You are such a blessing to all those around you! What a joy it has been getting to know you! I am excited for you and the plans that God has for you. Praying that He will exceed your expectations in the years to come. Stay in touch and keep me posted on your new music recommendations! Wishing you all the best and many blessings in your future endeavors!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

Sydney Watson, my domestic queen, how I love you! It’s a privilege to call you friend and watch how you’ve grown the past four years. I will especially treasure our times together in Barton Bible study and I will miss your joyful (and fashionable) presence around campus. Who’s going to brighten my day with gorgeous flower arrangements?! I am SO PROUD of you and how you’ve pushed through the trials with grace. I’ve said it before, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the amazing things God will do in and through you! Keep seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Congrats–GO CELEBRATE!!

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

SYDNEY! You are a rockstar full of grace and brains and the best conversations. My biggest regret is that we didn’t get to knit together and make that coloring book. Thank you so much for all of your hard work in admissions. If you’re ever in Michigan let me know! 🙂 Seriously, I’m so excited for you. Congratulations and Happy Graduation! I hope you keep creating bouquets of flowers wherever you go—those touches of excellence and beauty give people hope and glimpses of heaven. 🙂

Syd!! I’ve looked up to you since my first year at King’s and I’m so thankful to have gotten to know you a lil better. You make so laugh SO hard (must be because you’re a youngest sibling and I’m an eldest), and I will miss chilling in the lobby and procrastinating on work. Thank you for being you <3

SYD!!! I’m so incredibly blessed to have had you as a friend these past four years. I firmly believe you’re able to do anything and everything, and you can can do all that with ease and grace. I’ll forever miss being able to go to concerts or geek out over musicals with you, and I’d give anything for one last photoshoot, but I hope California can be a place of peace and rest, and I can’t wait to see how continue to excel in your post-grad life!!! (I wasn’t sure whether to end this with a quote from Veggietales, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet, Stello, or Bonelang, so instead I decided on this quote that reminds me of you). “One never reaches home,’ she said. ‘But where paths that have an affinity for each other intersect, the whole world looks like home, for a time.” -Demian, by Hermann Hesse

It’s been a pleasure, Sydney! I looked forward to seeing you in classes.

SYDNEY!! Congratulations!! I can’t believe it has been four years of adventures, memories, and laughs. I am honored to have been one of your friends and I cannot wait to see where life takes you! Please keep in touch! <3

Welcome to the other side—Popeyes, Jamaican food, and sugar-loaded Kool-Aid await you upon your return to the city! Honored to know you and looking forward to what your future has in store.

Oh, also: “yeah, no,” “no, yeah,” “yeah, no, and,” “no, yeah, but…”

Still can’t get past that. And yes, I’m pinning that on you.

It has been my absolute pleasure to know you these past few years. You’ve worked for me almost as long as I’ve been working for Admissions myself and I just don’t know what things will look like without you around. I’ve told you already but you are one of the most thoughtful and caring students I’ve known which is why I always trusted you to make a connection when authenticity was of the upmost importance. You are a rare and amazing individual in those ways and more. I know that this is not the way you wanted your time at King’s to end. And even being in California has come about as a quick transition. But know that you are going to be just fine and you are going to do great things. People will see in you what many of us here at King’s have seen. You will be an asset wherever you end up. You know that I am here for you with anything you need. You need a reference, a connection, a word of advice, etc? Do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look so forward to seeing what comes next for you. Congratulations on a job well done. You will be missed – but you will also be celebrated. Congrats, my friend.

Sydney!

Wow, I’m gonna miss you. I have looked up to you since freshman year and am sure I will forever want to be you when I grow up. I remember how loved I felt when you and apt. 10D baked a cake for me my freshman year, and what a pleasure it was to spend summer in the city with you as your roomie. Thanks for listening to me rant about how frustrating curators can be and for looking at disgusting pictures of spiders with me. You’re such a real one, Syd, and it’s been so great to share a portion of this journey with you. Cheers to this accomplishment and all that’s to come!

You are a rare talent. Your words, kindness, and strength shine through you at all times- anyone can see you are magnificent. Congratulations, Syd. Amazing things in store for you.

Syd! It’s been such a blessing to know you. I am thankful for our freshman mems (singing Rihanna, dinner dates, and deep talks late at night). I don’t think I know anyone quite like you (in a good way)! You have such a caring and radiant heart. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for you and to read all of your talented writing in the years to come.

Syd, I already miss you being in my apartment and in so many of my important moments. You’re one of my favorite people, and I can’t wait for more people to get to know you as you step beyond King’s into the working world. Jackbox games are always on my computer, whenever you want to play.

My sweet Sydney, I miss you so much. You have always been the best Barton sister I could have ever asked for and I always loved any class we had together. You made every day brighter and your passion for everything that you do is so inspiring. I’ve loved going to school with you for the past four years and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do in the future. Lots of love.

Sydney, I’ll always remember that adventure in Greenpoint where we ate DELICIOUS pierogies and bought a sugar cane – so fun! You are a delight to be around and I admire your creativity and cool/calm/collectiveness. Congrats on graduating girl!

Ms. Watson Congratulations it has been my pleasure for the past 4 years knowing you wishing you all the best.

Sydney, you are incredible. You have such a kind and loving heart, and I’m so honored to have gotten to know you, and spend so much time with you, over the past four years. You know so much about so much, and I was always stunned to hear of yet *another* language you knew. I’m going to miss seeing you around, but I’m really excited to see what God has in store for you!!

Sydney,

I have always admired how you care for others and your sincerity. It has been a joy to be your friend and I hope we keep in touch. I know you will do great things!

Sydney, we got to work together only a few times, but I always appreciated how you represented King’s with wit and warmth. Congratulations, and I wish you the best!

Sydney, you are THE definition of “Black Girl Magic!” I admire your gentle spirit and your amazing fashion sense! I loved getting to know you at Table talks and I enjoyed our time together in Kong’s poetry class. I love you and I know that you will go on to do amazing things!

Sydneyyyyyy!!! Congrats and congrats again!! You worked though so much for this, and it is so well deserved. Thank you for deciding that you would make me into your friend from our college writing class with Coleman; I am so glad you did. I am going to miss you so much, but I am so excited to see how your creativity and strength will impact those around you. Thanks for all the meals, conversations, and webtoon appreciation. 사랑해. 보고싶어!

SYDNEY. Dear friend. I have treasured getting to know you these last two years. You are strong and creative and intelligent. You are a seeker of all things good and true and beautiful. Thank you for all the work you’ve done in admissions and for your authentic, soulful presence. I’ll miss our chats and admiring your fabulous fashion choices. Best of luck as you start this new season. He is with you today and always.

Sydney, you are stunning in both mind and appearance, and knowing you has been a joy. I wish I had been able to spend more time with you these past few years–I’m sure between the two of us we could have hosted some killer dinner parties (outside Dele, of course). I do hope we can keep in touch because I know you’re going to be great out there in the world. Stay fabulous, my friend.
